James G. Averell

James George (“J.G.”) Averell was the son of Gallery founderEmily Sibley Watson and her first husband. J.G. Averell studied architecture at Harvard, as well as on his travelsin Europe. His career was tragically short-lived, as he died of typhoid fever atage 26. His love of art and architectureinspired his mother to found MAG, Rochester's art museum, in his memory.
